Imagine Music Festival 2019: An Aquatic Inferno

Imagine Music Festival 2019 Oceania Stage

Imagine Music Festival celebrated its sixth year with an explosive lineup at Atlanta Motor Speedway. From its inception at as a two-day festival at Masquerade Music Park in 2014, the festival has nearly tripled its audience, now boasting an attendance of nearly 45,000 music lovers and festival fanatics spanning four days. Founded and produced by IRIS Presents, Imagine 2019 has grown both its music and production to a standard that sets the bar for EDM festivals across the United States. From candy-coated shufflers, to cross-eyed headbangers, this festival once again proved it can live up to its reputation.

Continuing the theme of fire and water for this year’s production of Imagine Music Festival, the artist roster exemplified the staggering differences between the two elements. The musical talent brought forth by the event included some of the biggest names in the game, including: Above & Beyond, Alison Wonderland, Zeds Dead, Claude Von Stroke, Tipper, and more. Spanning the gambit of electronic music genres and catering to the tastes of every fun-loving attendee. This massive lineup would not have been possible without the expert stage production and sound engineering that rivals any major music event in the nation.

Six unique stages shone bright throughout the interior of the event, with stage design playing an important role in the experience. Oceania, the largest stage at the event, hosted EDM moguls like Zeds Dead, Alison Wonderland, Matoma, and a surprise appearance by Shaquille O’Neal a.k.a. DJ Diesel. Oceania had physical characteristics that towered over the stage, supplemented by lights, lasers, and high-pressure fog machines. An enormous crown sat over the DJ booth and gave even more purpose to every artist’s spot on the main stage.

Amazonia, the second largest stage at the event, focused its production on visual art, with performances by artists like Detox Unit (visuals by Cullen Hassel), Jade Cicada (visuals by Steven Haman), Tipper (visuals by Fractaled Visions), G Jones, and Louis the Child. It was clear that Music Matters Productions affirmed their presence with incredible sound delivery and dramatic lighting.

Disco Inferno, designed by Algorythm Designs, is aptly named for its pyrotechnics; in front of the stage stood a spire that shot fire more than thirty feet above the crowd. Just behind the stage was a sort of disassembled disco ball that shot smaller bursts of flames. Rusko, Lane 8, Space Jesus, and Dirtybird artists such as Claude Von Stroke, Justin Martin, and J.Phlip put on shows that highlighted their individual talents that took them down the road of fame.

Two stages punctuated the space between the aforementioned three. Six Feathers featuring Darude, among many others, and the Techyes stage, a new addition featuring local underground bass artists, which provided continual entertainment as attendees ventured throughout the grounds.

A particularly welcome part of this year’s festival was the organization of its stages. Sound pollution from other surrounding stages was unheard and almost forgotten. Stage presence was maximized through orientation and spacing, while genre also played a large part in the lineup.

Sunday came to a beautiful crescendo with fireworks over Marshmello at Oceania, while Tipper continued with an array of incredibly detailed and artistic projections beside him at the Amazonia stage. When the music subsided, there was only laughter and talk of unprecedented joy, nostalgia, and absolute satisfaction.

From Imagine Music Festival’s beginnings at Atlanta Motor Speedway, the musical talent in attendance has continued to speak for itself. When Imagine found its new home at the Atlanta Motor Speedway in 2016, they featured a lineup that consisted of the best of the best of Dubstep, with names like NERO, Caspa, Rusko, Borgore, Champagne Drip, and Delta Heavy. As the years progressed, they have continued to add to their list of stars across the map for EDM: Bassnectar, GRiZ, Galantis, The Glitch Mob, Armin Van Buuren, RL Grime, Alesso, Kaskade, Zhu, Lotus, and Green Velvet are among the many greats that have graced Imagine with their presence. The unique styles of electronic music these artists have brought to the table help define Imagine as the all-encompassing event it is today. Needless to say, year 4 at Atlanta Motor Speedway (year 6 overall) brought in a delightfully rich variety of music perpetuating its reputation as an event that covers the expanse of music available for today’s avid music lovers.

Decadence AZ Releases 2018 After-Movie

Decadence 2018 After-Movie Teaser

Phoenix, AZ – After a record setting year for Arizona’s leading dance music and EDM promoter, which included Phoenix Lights christen a new venue, the return of 2017’s best received new festival, Goldrush, and the introduction of RBDeep’s ORIGINS, it was the final two days of the year that saw Relentless Beats greatest success of 2018. As Decadence Arizona started to come together, it was apparent that this was not going to be just another New Year’s celebration- that the team who brings fans over 300 events a year was ending the year in grand style. Artists such as Skrillex; Porter Robinson; Eric Prydz; Above & Beyond; Marshmello; Rezz; and the big man who ushered in 2019, DJ Diesel, populated a lineup that was a fitting close to a roller coaster of a year.

In celebration of a successful 2018, Relentless Beats tapped Phoenix-based Thrill Wave Productions to capture Decadence Arizona and transport fans back into the momentous event. Taking a somewhat unique approach, the Thrill Wave team used three separate editors to create the video as they saw Decadence Arizona through their own eyes and pulling it all together for one singular story. Each of the three tracks: the unreleased “Lick U” by Blossom, “Vestal Avenue” by San Holo and “Control” by Ghastly provide the soundtrack to the after-movie and allow each editor their own unique space visually. What comes together is a video that not only transports fans back to Decadence, it takes them on a journey through heart-thumping bass, high-energy bouncing and chilled out bliss of the night. The editors explain their thought process below.

“I just really wanted to help the fan relive the moment and if you weren’t part of it- the desire will be there for the next year,” says Thrill Wave and Act 01 editor Javier Mejiava. “I also wanted to create the feeling that you’ll want to keep pressing replay and going back.”

“We wanted this act to break up the high energy pace of the first act and really slow things down,” says Thrill Wave and Act 02 editor Tony Swann. “People tend to get very in touch with themselves emotionally at big EDM shows, especially like Decadence for New Year’s Eve. There is a lot of energy, lot’s of good vibes, and people are having an experience. I think capturing all of this in slow motion gives the viewer a sense of depth and warmth. The video suddenly slows down and you feel like you are having a moment in your head, which is much like being at the actual show. People chase moments and when that moment hits everything slows down and you bask in the euphoria.”

“The final portion of the after-movie can be described as controlled chaos. I wanted to showcase how large the audience was by using big, steady and long establishing shots, then cutting to short bursts of chaos, much like the behavior amongst the crowd and talent,” explains Thrill Wave and Act 03 editor Leah Semeniuk. “This created a nice juxtaposition between the two paces, as well as the previous sections done by other editors.”

Decadence Arizona is produced by Relentless Beats and Global Dance. The after-movie was made possible by our partners at Dancing Astronaut & Wild Horse Pass. Imagine Music Festival: A Little Relief

Black Tiger Sex Machine at Imagine 2017

Imagine Music Festival, one of the largest independent music festivals in the United States, returned to Georgia’s Atlanta Motor Speedway, September 22nd-24th to give over 30,000 music-lovers and fun-seekers an experience they will never forget.

Founded by IRIS Presents, Inc. in 2013, the festival continues to thrive and attract a dedicated fan base.  Musicians, artists, performers, and merchants came together to form a festival themed around fire and water, with main stages Oceania, Disco Inferno, and Amazonia. Giant jellyfish floated through the air rippling as if they drifted along an ocean current. Mermaids walked the Earth, towering 10-feet tall, high above the heads of the crowd. Fire spinners put on flaming displays of spinning light that illuminated the grounds. This dichotomy created an atmosphere of balance and beauty.

The production alone was worthy of mention and the performances by a diverse group of electronic and instrumental musicians was not to be overlooked. Imagine boasted a plethora of headliners such as Above & Beyond, Tiësto, Pretty Lights, Big Gigantic, Illenium, and many more. The crowd was surprised by unique sounds and unreleased tracks. Illenium wowed the crowd with a taste of his unreleased collaboration with Kill The Noise and tracks off his newest album, Awake. The Floozies played a newly released remix with Kendrick Lamar. The list goes on.

Imagine Music Festival kicked off just 12 days after Hurricane Irma struck the coast of Florida as a Category 4 storm, knocking out power to more than 12 million people in Florida. The destruction spanned from the Caribbean through the southeastern US, affecting millions and nearly every patron and participant at the festival. This however, did not stop Imagine Music Festival or its fans. Imagine was able to help provide support to the response and recovery efforts in communities devastated by this disaster by partnering with the American Red Cross with a donation campaign.

The Imagine Music Festival community is filled with a brilliant variety of freaks, geeks, nerds, and weirdos who all bring something special to the event. Running into long lost friends or brand new ones is not just possible, it is inevitable. The community buzzes with a sense of care and love. Stop and chat with an artist, dance with a performer, hangout with your favorite musician; it’s all possible with a sense of confidence, friendship, and a can-do attitude. It is this collective joy and compassion from one another that helps catapult the crowds of music lovers into a beautiful world of life, love, and music where all cares are easily forgotten.

In light of the recent darkness, patrons of Imagine Music Festival came together for a weekend of fun, love, laughter, and music. Another successful year for the Imagine team and another great experience for all those involved.

Stay tuned for additional Imagine coverage, detailing the experience of the Disco Inferno Stage, with commentary from Incendia owners Cory and Tyler Glenn. Scroll below the editor’s note for photos from Imagine.

Editor’s Note: Imagine Music Festival and its surrounding areas were directly affected by Hurricane Irma in the weeks leading up to Imagine. However, during the festival weekend, Puerto Rico was devastated by Hurricane Maria, the strongest hurricane to make landfall in Puerto Rico since 1928. 3.4 million US Citizens were left without power and water, and limited access to food, gasoline, and other basic life necessities. It will take months to rebuild after the damage of Hurricane Maria. Imagine Music Festival 2017 Full Lineup

Imagine Music Festival 2017 Full Lineup

After dropping a first phase lineup that would exceed most other festival’s full rosters, the three-day music and camping festival is releasing the next round of performers for its 2017 event. Returning to Atlanta Motor Speedway in Atlanta, Georgia on September 22 through 24, 2017, Imagine has put an exclamation point on its performer lineup with a mix of new heavyweights, including:

Big Gigantic: Perennial fan favorites, Big G, has made a name for themselves by pairing electronic beats with their signature live saxophone and drums. Tracks from their latest release, last year’s Brighter Future that included a bevy of collaborators, is currently getting the remix treatment from acts like Luca Lush, Kasbo and Naderi.

STS9: Originally from Georgia and affectionately known to fans simply as “Tribe”, this tight knit group of electronic rock instrumentalists with a meteoric rise to fame, is now nearly 20 years into their illustrious career. Perfecting their self-described “post-rock dance music” through live rock instrumentation on one of their many tours, STS9 is one of the top-grossing live acts globally.

Claude VonStroke: A producer obsessed with the cross-pollination of genres, Claude VonStroke has made a name for himself as a house and techno pioneer with the chops to craft pristine, albeit laid-back remixes. This year, as the owner of Dirtybird Records, VonStroke will be joined by Shiba San, Will Clarke, Ciszak and Dateless on the label’s branded stage at Imagine.

G Jones: A favorite of the underground bass scene, G Jones has emerged as a staple on the festival circuit having played such notables as Bonnaroo, Euphoria, Camp Bisco and more. His unique blend of distorted bass and trip visuals make for one of the more energetic shows on the circuit.

Illenium: As a relative newbie to the game, Illenium has taken big strides since the release of his debut Ashes in 2016, having remixed Dawn Golden, ODESZA and Oh Wonder, amongst others.

NGHTMRE: Originally a trap and house producer, NGHTMRE released an eponymous EP in 2016- considered by many to be one of the top dance/electronic contributions of the year. The recently released “End of the Night” is a collaboration with Ghastly that is an epic example of what to expect at Imagine.

Additional artists new to the lineup include: Ciszak; Dateless; Hippie Sabotage; and The Funk Hunters, as well as local talent: Alex Lucas; Bandikook; Blunts & Blondes; Corey Von Waters; Daddydough; Daniels Jack; Deep Technicians; Devious; Domii; Exit 9; Flats Stanlie (theUntz Winner); Higher Learning; Jordan Gervais; Kevin Flum; Lucidea; LYFTD (theUntz Winner); Organik; Riven; Robbie Dude; Sejva; Space Kadet; Stranger Candy; Sylo; Teriyaki Noize; White Rhino; Yuki; and Zen Selekta. Additional music blocks will be provided by: Bass Family, Slow & Low and Trance Family.
